History

Girl Scouts at the Betsuin History

(from the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin Girl Scouts 25th Anniversary book)

March 9 and 10, 1996

Brownie Troop 1052 had its first meeting in 1971; the leaders were Reiko Iwanaga, Alice (A.Y.) Kadonaga, and Emi Tsutsumi.

Junior Troop 260 was originally Troop 40 when it was formed in 1971. The leaders of Troop 40 were Ricki Miyahara, Lois Sakamoto, and Sue Yasui.

Cadette Troop 404 was organized in 1972 with leaders Susan Okamoto (Lyon), Karen Shimane (Akimoto) and Diane Tsukamoto (Hurd).

Senior Troop 782 was formed in 1977 for graduating Cadettes wanting to continue in the Girl Scout program. The organizing leaders were Karen Shimane (Akimoto), Jean and Warren Wilson.

Daisy Girl Scout Troop 273 was formed in 1985 for kindergarten and first-grade girls; Dottie Akutagawa and Mimi Suga were the coordinators.
